Review: Runes of Magic

Over the past few days I downloaded and played the free, popular, fantasy MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) 'Runes of Magic' a.k.a RoM.
The game was developed by Runewaker Entertainment and published by Frogster Interactive. In was released on the 19th March 2009.

Then came Chapter II – The Elven Prophecy that was launched on 15 September 2009. The next chapter, Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms, came out on the 22nd April 2010.
Chapter IV - Lands of Despair, Release on June 16, 2011 and finally Chapter V - Fires of Shadowforge, Release on June 12, 2012.

I can defiantly see it has its similarities to World of Warcraft, WoW. Although, it is free to play and no monthly subscription is needed. RoM has slight differences to WoW. Runes of Magic's main features that are different is being allowed to choose from 3 classes when starting up at the beginning of the game before entering the world. As one of the following 3:
1. Human
2. Elf
3. Dwarf
(I personally played as the elf, as i usually do)

They're 10 further character classes that you are able to choose from. The following listed:
1.Warrior
2.Scout
3.Rogue
4.Mage
5.Priest
6.Knight
7.Druid
8.Warden
9.Champion
10.Warlock

However, depending on the race you choose as either of the Human, Elf or Dwarf will give you access to some of the 10 character classes.

If you are fairly new to MMO games and don't know how to work out how to play there is a tutorial if you want/need it at the beginning of the game.

You are able to use W,A,S and D to more around back, forth, left and right. You can also use the letters Q and E to move the camera angle from side to side. Which i feel is really easy to pick up on even if you are new to PC games and are not used to the way that everything is controlled. As you go throughout the game, the easier it will get learning the controls.

Within the game, you are able to complete quests. One thing i like about this is that is it tells you exactly what you need to do so you can stay locked in the game for hours playing because you are not looking around lost and getting bored. As you do more quests, you gain more XP in order to level up. When you reach certain levels such as level 10, you are able to choose a class for the second time.

You can also learn professions such as:
  • Blacksmithing: a crafting skill to make Swords, Axes, Hammers, Daggers, and Shields
  • Armorcrafting: a crafting skill to make Leather Armor, Chain Armor, and Plate Armor
  • Carpentry: a crafting skill to make Furniture, Bows, Wands, Talismans and Staves
  • Tailoring: a crafting skill to make Cloth Armor
  • Cooking: a crafting skill to make Food providing various buffs
  • Alchemy: a crafting skill to make Potions for healing and various buffs
  • Mining: a Gathering skill to mine Ore materials for crafting
  • Woodcutting: a Gathering skill to mine Wood materials for crafting
  • Herbalism: a Gathering skill to mine Herb materials for crafting
  • Planting: a Gathering skill to plant for all three types of materials for crafting.

According to a Wikipedia source, MMO has also been given awards for Best crafting, Best PvP, Best Capacity for Roleplay, Best Free to Play MMO, Best Graphics, Overall Best New MMO.

All recieved in 2009 when it was first released.

Considering this game is free to play and was in competition with WoW, one of the best MMORPG's ever, It is a very good game. I have been told, personally, that WoW has been described to be as addictive as heroine. To run up against WoW is incredibly difficult. I have known people to play it for days straight. The Graphic of the game are high quality and the choices that are available are fantastic. It is a great play if you are into MMO games.

I decided to play Rune of Magic after seeing the advertisements everywhere on the internet so i decided to download it. If it was an online game i would of started much long ago. My personal rating of this game would defiantly be 4/5 (It is rare for me to give full marks)
